Committee Meetings
House Finance Committee
The House Finance Committee met twice this week and approved two bills. On Tuesday, July 23, the Committee approved S 523, Late Filing Penalty. That bill would adjust the manner in which a penalty is imposed for individual income taxpayers who file returns late by eliminating the penalty when no tax is due. The bill passed the first of two required votes on the House floor, but was then re-referred to the Finance Committee. On Wednesday, July 24, the Committee approved S 354, Revise Auditor's Responsibilities - AB. That bill would revise the auditor's responsibilities by removing her from the Committee on Actuarial Valuation of Retired Employees' Health Benefits and by clarifying her role in auditing schools in the UNC System. The bill has now been ratified and awaits action by the Governor.
Senate Finance Committee
The Senate Finance Committee met on Tuesday, July 23 and approved three bills. H 1015, Bessemer City Annexation, involves annexation in the City of Bessemer. The bill has now become law. H 135, Adjust Landfill Permit Timing Fee, would make adjustments to the fee schedule for permits for sanitary landfills and transfer stations to reflect extension of the duration of these permits as directed by legislation enacted in 2012. The bill has now been ratified and awaits action by the Governor. H 552, Remove Area from County Service District, would authorize boards of county commissioners to remove territory from a county water or sewer district. The bill has now been ratified and awaits action by the Governor.
