Budget Update
House and Senate budget chairs continued negotiations throughout the week to put the finishing touches on the states spending plan for the next two years. Final details haven’t been released, but both chambers hope to have a budget ready to take to the floor next week ahead of the September 18 deadline.
In addition to budget work, House and Senate leadership have agreed to put a bond referendum on the ballot next year. The dollar amount, specific projects and date are still uncertain. The House, who passed a $2.85 billion dollar package earlier this session, would like to see number set at $2 billion. Senate leadership has made it clear they would like a much smaller package, citing $1.5 billion dollars.
