North Carolina Legislative Report - September 6, 2013
August 24 - September 6
The General Assembly has officially completed its business for the 2013 long session. The 2014 short session will begin on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. The MVA Public Affairs Legislative Report on North Carolina will be distributed bi-weekly to keep you up to date on the latest legislative issues facing the state during the interim.
On the Floor
The House and Senate returned this week for a brief session to address two bills vetoed by Governor McCrory. Both HB 392 which deals with drug testing and background checks for welfare recipients and, HB 786, which addresses requirements for use of the federal E-Verify system for seasonal workers, were overridden in both chambers. Members now return to their districts until May of next year when the General Assembly will reconvene for the short session.
