On the Floor
The General Assembly returned for the second half of the 120th Session on Tuesday and will run until June 5, 2014.
Department of Administration
S. 22 – The South Carolina Government Restructuring Act of 2013 was approved by the conference committee and will be taken up by both chambers as soon as possible. The bill will eliminate the Budget and Control Board and create the Department of Administration, which will house many of the same functions as the Budget and Control Board and will be under the control of the governor.
Concealed Weapons
The Senate amended S. 308 regarding carrying a concealed weapon into establishments that sell alcohol and returned the bill to the House of Representatives for concurrence or nonconcurrence in the Senate amendment.
Workers’ Compensation
The House gave third reading and sent to the Senate H. 3147 , regarding workers’ compensation expansion for law enforcement.
In Committee
The House Ways and Means budget subcommittees are receiving testimony from the various state agencies regarding budget requests.

In The News
SC Government Restructuring for First Time in 20 years
House and Senate lawmakers have reached a deal to abolish the state Budget and Control Board, transferring most of the state’s administrative duties to the governor’s office in a major restructuring of state government.
SC Lawmakers Return for Session
When state legislators pack the State House Tuesday to begin the second session of the two-year General Assembly, the likely fodder for chatter will be S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson’s announcement Monday that he referred ethics allegations against House Speaker Bobby Harrell -- and a subsequent SLED inquiry and report -- to a state grand jury for further investigation.
