Nader Raja quoted in North Carolina Lawyers Weekly on Charlotte Triage
MVA Litigation Member Nader Raja was quoted in the North Carolina Lawyers Weekly article titled, “Pro bono task force fighting for tenants” which was published on December 18.
Nader Raja is the co-champion of Moore and Van Allen’s Triage housing eviction defense team. He said that the moratorium, while not a panacea for eviction issues, presents an opportunity for Triage attorneys to help tenants understand the moratorium and how to invoke its protections. Counseling is available for all phases of the eviction process, but finding an amicable solution between landlord and tenant to either keep the tenant in the property or negotiate an early lease termination is preferable.
Charlotte Triage is a partnership between McGuireWoods, Bank of America, Moore & Van Allen, Wells Fargo, Duke Energy, and Husqvarna that brings together law firms and corporate legal department to raise awareness of unmet legal needs in the community. The North Carolina Lawyers Weekly story focused on Charlotte Triage’s efforts to assist tenants in eviction cases, a need made greater by the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative is modeled on a similar program launched in Richmond, Virginia in 2017.
