Moore & Van Allen PLLC (MVA) is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2025. MVA will commemorate this milestone with our colleagues, clients and community partners throughout the year.

“Moore & Van Allen has grown significantly during our 75 years, while demonstrating an unwavering commitment to legal excellence, client service and community impact,” said MVA Managing Partner and Chair Thomas L. Mitchell. “Our founders created an enduring legacy that we uphold today. We are excited to honor our core values and show our appreciation for everyone who has contributed to this success as we continue to chart our course for the next 75 years and beyond.”

In 1950, the firm’s founding partners, Robert (Bob) Lassiter, Jr., and James (Jim) O. Moore opened offices in uptown Charlotte, intentionally building a business and banking practice at a time when other firms were pursuing a more general practice model. Today, financial services remains a core practice, in addition to MVA’s award-winning corporate, private equity and investments, litigation, intellectual property, bankruptcy, and commercial real estate capabilities. Over time, MVA has expanded its practices in response to the needs of our clients and the community, including trust and estate planning, zoning and land use, economic development, white-collar defense, DEI audits and equity assessments, financial regulatory, and human trafficking prevention and compliance.

MVA is the largest law firm in North Carolina and one of the most prominent law firms in the Southeast based on numerous key indicators including the sophistication of our clients and matters, breadth and depth of experience, gross revenue, headcount, attorney and practice rankings, and nationally recognized inclusion programs.

“Throughout 2025, we will highlight stories about Moore & Van Allen’s impact and the people who have helped make our firm what it is today,” said Mitchell. “This anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate our past, honor the present, and look ahead to a promising future.”

Along with continued growth in size, practice capabilities, pro bono service,  and community impact, MVA remains focused on demonstrating its Shared Core Values of Respect, Excellence, Inclusion, Empowerment, Leadership, and Together. These core values define MVA’s culture, standards, and service.
