The Charlotte Business Journal awarded Health Care Member Carol Bowen with a 2013 Women in Business Achievement Award at the 17th Annual Women in Business Awards Luncheon on June 20.  Bowen was also honored at a cocktail reception on June 18 and profiled in the publication's Women in Business Special Report on June 21.

The Women in Business Award was established to honor 25 outstanding business women from within the region who have made significant contributions to their professions and communities over the course of a year.

How she got started: Bowen majored in French. After college, she took a job with a shipping company in Manhattan communicating with shipping agents in France via Telex.  She began working with outside counsel on a legal case and got the idea of going to law school instead of pursuing a Ph.D. in the language.

What inspires her:  “My parents set a really good example for me.  They both worked hard.  My mother lost both of her parents before the age of 5.  I look at them and think I have it easy compared to that.”
