Firm Named in Coverage of Coal Ash Proposal

Moore & Van Allen was named in The Charlotte Observer and Winston-Salem Journal, in the article “Environmentalists: Charlotte airport coal ash storage is likely better than unlined ponds,” which published on March 23. The article discusses a proposal to bury coal ash at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The millions of tons of coal ash would come from the retired Riverbend Steam Station on Mountain Island Lake and be buried in lined, capped enclosures at the airport. The MVA Public Affairs team is working with Charah Inc., the Kentucky-based contractor with whom Duke plans to work to dig up and re-bury the ash. 

“'Charah believes it has provided the best possible assurances that the engineered fills constructed at the Asheville airport and proposed for the Charlotte airport are safe and will protect the environment and public health,’ said Scott Sewell, Charah’s chief operating officer, in a statement provided by Charlotte-based law firm Moore & Van Allen.”
