Lluberas Shares Bar Mentoring Program Experience
Moore & Van Allen Bankruptcy Attorney Luis Lluberas co-authored an article published in the Mecklenburg County Bar’s (MCB) April newsletter. Lluberas and DeeDee Lott of Compass Group USA, Inc., wrote the “Apex Mentoring Program” piece to recap their experience as participants in the MCB’s Apex Mentoring program.
Apex, now in its second year, was designed to encourage and support the ascension of minority attorneys to senior positions within Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s law firms. Minority associates who have been practicing law for between three and seven years are paired with tenured in-house law counsel.
According to the article, Lott, a female litigator of Filipino descent, and Lluberas, a male bankruptcy attorney of Puerto Rican descent, meet on a monthly basis. Their mentor-mentee relationship has grown organically and “without specific ‘task-based’ goals.” A gradual approach to the relationship “has revealed that their personalities and backgrounds provide excellent fodder for discussion topics that ultimately highlight their common interested and work ethics."
