McDowell Receives Julius L. Chambers Diversity Champion Award
Moore & Van Allen is pleased to announce that Litigation Member Valecia McDowell was named a 2017 recipient of the Julius L. Chambers Diversity Champion Award. McDowell was formally announced as the winner at the McMillan Fund Fellowship Dinner on February 23 at Byron’s Southend.
McDowell is the co-head of the Firm’s White Collar, Regulatory Defense and Investigations practice and possesses significant trial, arbitration, regulatory defense experience in complex, high-stakes cases, particularly in the financial services, securities, manufacturing, telecommunications and health care industries. As co-chair of Moore & Van Allen’s Diversity Committee, she continues to make a personal investment within the career trajectories of the Firm’s female and minority associates, and works alongside Firm leadership to implement retention and promotion efforts that advance diversity within the Firm.
In addition, McDowell currently sits on the board of the Arts and Sciences Council and serves as General Counsel of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. McDowell is the former Board chair Community Building Initiative, former Co-Chair of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Cultural Life Task Force, former Co-Chair of Mecklenburg County Bar Sub-Committee on Diversity and former Board Member of the Council for children’s Rights.
The Julius L. Chambers Diversity Champion Award is presented annually by the Mecklenburg County Bar through its Diversity and Inclusion Committee. The award recognizes attorneys who champion diversity and inclusion in the Charlotte area while embodying high ethical standards, unquestioned integrity and consistent competence.
