Moore & Van Allen, one of the largest law firms in the Carolinas and Southeast, announced that Walter Price, a 17-year veteran of advocating corporate policy issues at the federal, state and local levels, has joined the firm as Managing Director of Government Affairs.

Mr. Price has served in similar roles for some of the nation’s largest financial institutions, including Wachovia (now Wells Fargo), Bank of America and most recently U.S. Bancorp. He also has been a leader in national government affairs and financial policy issues, serving in leadership roles at several national trade associations.

In addition to financial services, Moore & Van Allen’s Public Affairs practice offers government-relations counsel and services in the key policy areas where Moore & Van Allen specializes, including healthcare, energy and environmental issues, manufacturing, technology, taxes and trade.  Mr. Price will co-lead the practice with Moore & Van Allen partners Nancy Smith and John Saydlowski.

“We are delighted to offer our clients Walter’s long experience and proven leadership to represent their public policy priorities at all levels of government.  With a deep understanding of today’s pressing issues, combined with the respect he has earned among senior policymakers, Walter is ideally suited to help expand our already-strong public affairs practice,” said Ernie Reigel, Chairman of Moore & Van Allen.

“I am excited by the opportunity to join one of the preeminent public affairs firms in the Southeast,” said Mr. Price. “We are committed to aggressively advocating for our clients in key policy issues, by enhancing their relationships in Washington and in the region’s statehouses and city halls.” Mr. Price will further develop the firm’s presence in Washington D.C., Raleigh, N.C., and Columbia, S.C., as well as manage national grassroots initiatives.

As Director of Government Relations at Wachovia Corp. from 2002 to 2010, Mr. Price created and implemented a strategic engagement program in Washington that resulted in company executives serving as chairs of every major national financial services trade association over a two-year period. He also developed outreach strategies in support of a series of corporate mergers and help win local and state support for funding of a major cultural arts project in Charlotte.

Most recently, as head of the Washington office at U.S. Bancorp, he established the firm’s first office in the nation’s capital. Earlier, as Senior Vice President for Corporate Affairs at Bank of America, he introduced a new senior leadership team to key public and community stakeholders. Mr. Price, a native of Charlotte, received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Davidson College.
