MVA Represents Entity owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin in Establishing NASCAR Race Team
Moore & Van Allen PLLC congratulates its client 2311 Racing LLC, an entity owned by Michael Jordan and three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin, for its formation of a new NASCAR Cup Series race team. MVA is representing Michael Jordan’s ownership interest in the venture and the new team in connection with several matters, including the acquisition of a NASCAR team charter, the negotiation of a multi-year driver agreement with Bubba Wallace and the negotiation of sponsorship agreements and other commercial arrangements related to the operation of the team.
The team of MVA attorneys is led by members Dickson (Dick) M. Lupo (Intellectual Property), and Joseph (Joe) A. Fernandez (Corporate), and includes members Chris Thompson (Real Estate) and Rob Fisher (Tax).
Jordan will serve as principal owner of the new team with Hamlin as a minority partner. Upon the completed purchase of a NASCAR team charter from Germain Racing, Jordan became the first Black majority owner of a full-time race team in NASCAR’s premier series since NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Wendell Scott owned and raced his own car from the 1960s into the early 1970s.
