Moore & Van Allen PLLC honored select firm attorneys and staff at its 17th annual Sally & Bill Van Allen Public Service Luncheon in June. Litigation Member Randel E. Phillips received the hallmark 2018 Sally & Bill Van Allen Public Service Award for his commitment to public service. Additionally, the Outstanding Volunteer Staff Member Award was presented to Human Resources Administrative Coordinator Patty LaQuay and the Outstanding Legal Department Partner Award was given to the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office.

Hanna III has been named to the North Carolina Lawyers Hall of Fame, a North Carolina Lawyers Weekly awards program designed to recognize the state’s most noteworthy senior lawyers. Hanna was formally recognized at the Hall of Fame event on June 26.

Revolve Residential, a boutique development firm based in Charlotte, is seeking the MUDD-O, or mixed-use development-optional, rezoning for a roughly 2.6-acre site in NoDa. Along with Copper Builders, 505Design, ALB Architecture and LandDesign, Moore & Van Allen is representing Revolve in the rezoning process. MVA Real Estate Member Evan Bass is leading the project, with construction expected to begin in early 2019.

A 36th class Leadership Charlotte graduate, Bankruptcy Member Luis Lluberas has been selected to the board for Leadership Charlotte. Upon the request by Executive Director, Elizabeth McKee, Lluberas was selected to continue his service to the organization.  

Litigation Associate Nader Raja has recently graduated from the 39th class of Leadership Charlotte. The Leadership Charlotte program, considered a “backstage” pass to the Charlotte community, was established for emerging and existing leaders.

Charlotte Litigation Member and co-head of Moore & Van Allen’s White Collar, Regulatory Defense and Investigations practice John Fagg attended the 5th Annual Cambridge Forum on Financial Institutions Enforcement on May 17 and 18. The Forum is a by-invitation only meeting of a small group of white collar criminal defense and regulatory defense lawyers who advise financial institutions on enforcement matters.

Charlotte Litigation Attorney Tandy Mathis served as a panelist at the 2018 Bank of America eDiscovery Summit on March 12. The panel covered the impacts of Brexit (Britain’s exit from the EU); regional rule changes, such as GDPR and how they affect organizations inside and outside the EU.

MVA’s Finance team ranked third again in 2017 in Thomson Reuters Loan Pricing Corporation’s (LPC) U.S. Lender Law Firm League Tables for syndicated debt financings. Also finishing in the top 3 in the League Tables in 2016, MVA closed 186 deals in 2017 in which it represented lead arrangers and book runners in syndicated debt transactions.

Moore & Van Allen was honored by Feeding the Carolinas, an association of 10 food banks in North and South Carolina, on December 15 for forming the association and helping to develop a strategic plan.  At the opening ceremony the organization raised over $100,000 and received 10 tractor trailers full of food to benefit all 10 food banks in the Carolinas. Corporate Member Steve Hope led the pro bono project for the firm.
